Wind Ensemble 2009

Congratulations to the Center Grove Wind Ensemble for finishing in 7th Place at the ISSMA State Concert Band Finals.  This was the ensembles' first trip to State Finals since 2004 and their highest placement since 1999!  We are all very proud of the ensemble for their outstanding achievement.

Concert Bands

Music courses are encouraged for all students interested in pursuing careers in Fine Arts, Design and Communications. Center Grove High School has several music courses available in the form of concert bands:

The Wind Ensemble is a select group, based on audition and past performance.  It is intended for those students with a serious interest in developing their abilities on their instrument and the study and performance of college level music.  It is highly recommended that students study privately on their instrument.  Students may be reevaluated near the end of the first semester and moved into Symphonic Band.  Students in Wind Ensemble must attend scheduled after-school rehearsals in the Spring. It is the expectation that students in this ensemble participate in ISSMA Solo and Ensemble as well as audition and/or apply for various All-State or honor groups.

The Symphonic Band is also a select group, based on audition and past performance.  This course is designed to challenge the advanced musician and to expose them to literature above the average high school musician’s ability.  Private lesions are recommended at this level.  At the conclusion of the first semester, some students may be considered for placement in Wind Ensemble.  This will be based on past performance in the class and instrumentation needs in the top two ensembles.

The Bravura Band is comprised of freshmen brass players.  The daily work and music selected will be used to advance the technique and musicality of the students to a higher level.  The literature is moderate in nature and is selected to enhance the knowledge of styles and periods of music.  Students are encouraged to study privately to develop on their individual instrument.  At the conclusion of the first semester, students may be considered for placement into one of the top level ensembles.  This will be based on past performance in the class and instrumentation needs in the top two ensembles.

The Allegro Band is comprised of freshmen woodwind players.  The emphasis in this class will be on tone production and mastery of basic musical skills.  The literature is moderate in nature and is selected to develop the individual performer.  Students are encouraged to study privately to develop on their instrument.  At the conclusion of the first semester, some freshman may be moved into one of the top level ensembles.  This will be based on past performance in the class and instrumentation needs in the top two ensembles.

The Marcato Band has been developed to advance the level of performance for percussion students in the music department.  All percussion students will be enrolled in this course and assigned to play for various concert bands as needed during the season.  Private lessons are highly recommended.
