STUDENT/PARENT PRIVATE LESSON INFORMATION

This program is designed to help your child to receive one-on-one instruction with a professional musician during the school day. The Private Lessons program is an optional activity available to all. Below, is an outline of expectations for the program. If you are interested in becoming involved in this exciting program, return the attached sheet to your band director as soon as possible. Time slots for the private lessons will be filled on a first come first served basis. Lessons will begin as soon as the private teachers have organized their lesson schedule.

• Private lessons will be available during the school day and after school when the school is in session. Lessons may be arranged during the student’s music class, study hall, STaR, lunch hour, or after school.

• The price of the lessons will be approximately $13.00 per lesson. Each lesson will be about 25-30 minutes. Some prices may vary depending on the private instructor.

• The private lesson payment schedule will be arranged by the individual teachers. Students may be requested to pay a month in advance for lessons.

• Student are required to attend scheduled private lessons unless absent from school due to illness, death in the family, or an excused absence in accordance with the Center Grove Schools attendance policy. Communication with your private teacher is crucial to our program’s success. If you are absent from school, please contact your private teacher on the day of the absence. A private teacher reserves the right to hold you financially responsible for a missed lesson due to an unexcused absence.

• All private teachers that instruct in our school system will be qualified professional musicians who have been screened by the Center Grove Music Staff and have completed a background check through Center Grove school corporation.

The benefits of a private lesson program 

Offering private instruction during the school day offers many benefits to all of our students and parents. Students will benefit tremendously from one on one instruction on their specific instrument. A staff of two and half instructors can provide general information in a group setting, but critical individual attention is not possible.

Providing private lessons during the school day benefits the parents of our students. By having the lessons in school, students are not limited due to sport schedules, after school obligations, or transportation concerns.

Private lessons play a key role in motivating high achieving students to excel beyond the abilities of the group and at the same time private lessons can provide critical individual attention to the student that is having difficulty keeping up with the group.

By using professional musicians in the area we are also tapping into a vital community resource. These professionals greatly enhance the music education curriculum offered at Center Grove.
